The Secular Franciscan Order of Málaga and the Seraphic brotherhoods have presented the programme for the VIII Centenary of the Transition of Saint Francis of Assisi, which will be celebrated from September 28 to October 4 at the Church of Santo Cristo de la Salud.

The Secular Franciscan Order of Málaga and the Seraphic brotherhoods of the capital have organised a week of worship and cultural events to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, which occurred on October 3, 1226. The information, reported by Diario Sur, details that the epicentre will be the Church of Santo Cristo de la Salud, the canonical seat of the order in Málaga since 1980.

Under the motto 'Peace and Good', the programme will kick off on Monday September 28 at 7 PM with floral offerings from the Royal Merged Brotherhoods of San Juan and the Congregation of the Divine Shepherdess of Souls, followed by a lecture from Brother Salvador Jiménez (OFM), from the Franciscan community of the convent of San Francisco de Vélez-Málaga.

On Tuesday September 29, at the same time, the Brotherhood of Jesús El Rico and the Brotherhood of Students will participate, and journalist Ana Medina Heredia will give a talk. Wednesday September 30 will feature the Archbrotherhood of the Garden and the Brotherhood of Santo Cristo de la Salud, with a presentation by priest Francisco Aurioles de Gorostiza.

On Thursday October 1, a day of Eucharistic Adoration will be held, led by Pedro Marín Galiano (OFS), which will include offerings from the Brotherhoods of the Holy Cross and the Dolorous Slavery. On Friday October 2, the parish groups of the Wound on the Shoulder and Sweet Resignation will participate, along with historian Andrés Camino Romero, director of the magazine La Saeta.

On Saturday October 3, at 12 PM, the Municipal Music Band, conducted by Francisco Miguel Haro Sánchez, will perform, and in the afternoon, at 7 PM, a solemn vigil of the transition will take place. On Sunday October 4, at 1 PM, the emeritus archbishop of Pamplona and Tudela, Monsignor Francisco Pérez González, will preside over a solemn Eucharist with the vocal group 'In Keys of Music from Algeciras'.

Pope Leo XIV proclaimed a Jubilee Year of Saint Francis that began on January 10 of this year and will extend until January 10, 2027. Additionally, in Vélez-Málaga, the image of the saint, created by Domingo Sánchez Mesa, will be paraded on September 19 at 7:30 PM.
