Málaga City Council has designed a special traffic and public transport plan for the Fair, which will take place from 15 to 22 August. A total of 3,185 parking spaces for cars and 2,990 for motorcycles will be made available, along with reinforcements for the EMT and taxis.
Málaga City Council has launched a special mobility plan for the August Fair, which will run from 15 to 22 August, aiming to organise travel to the Centre and the Real de Cortijo de Torres. The plan, designed by the Mobility Area, includes traffic cuts, diversions, and an enhancement of public transport to reduce the use of private vehicles.
According to the City Council, 3,185 parking spaces for cars and another 2,990 for motorcycles will be available around Cortijo de Torres. Additionally, citizens and visitors are encouraged to use public transport to access both the Real and the historic centre.
Traffic cuts and diversions to the Real
Traffic heading towards the Real de la Feria will be affected by diversions on Avenida de Ortega y Gasset, Calle Paquiro, and Camino de San Rafael. From around 20:00 hours, these points will be closed in different sections, with corresponding alternative routes.
The area between Camino de San Rafael, Avenida de las Malagueñas, and Calle Paquiro, in the section between Calle Juan Gris and La Orotava, will be closed to traffic 24 hours a day throughout the week. Avenida Ortega y Gasset will also be closed between Calle Rosamunda and the Palacio de Ferias, and traffic on Camino de San Rafael will be diverted via Avenida Juan XXIII and Calle Alcalde Díaz Zafra.
The section of Camino de San Rafael between Alcalde Díaz Zafra and the fairgrounds will be reserved exclusively for buses, taxis, and residents, a situation that will be signposted at various points on Avenida Juan XXIII and in the vicinity of the affected section. During the Fair week, the Cortijo Alto neighbourhood will have access restrictions: only residents will be allowed entry via Calle Hamlet and EMT buses via Calle Mefistófeles, between 14:00 and 20:00 hours.
Restrictions in the Historic Centre
Due to the Fair in the Centre, the access control system to the Historic Centre will operate from 12:00 to 18:00 hours, following the Fair Decree. During this time, access will be restricted except for emergencies, and traffic is expected to be restored around 21:00 hours for residents and authorised vehicles.
There will be a traffic-free zone in the centre every day of the Fair between 12:00 and 18:00 hours, affecting streets such as Travesía Pintor Nogales, Plaza de la Aduana, Císter, San Agustín, Duque de la Victoria, Plaza del Siglo, Molina Lario, Plaza del Obispo, Martínez, Sancha de Lara, Comedias, Nosquera, Santa Lucía, Méndez Núñez, Casapalma, Cárcer, Cisneros, and Especería. Parking of all types of vehicles will be prohibited on these streets between 12:00 and 21:00 hours.
During the afternoons of the Fair, the service road of Plaza del General Torrijos, in front of the Noble Hospital, will be designated as parking for people with reduced mobility. Regarding loading and unloading in the Historic Centre, the usual schedule (from 7:00 to 11:00 hours) will be extended until 12:00 hours the week before; on working days of the Fair, it will be from 7:00 to 12:00 hours, and on holidays (Saturday 15, Sunday 16, and Wednesday 19), from 7:00 to 10:00 hours.
Pilgrimage and public transport
The Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Victoria will take place on Saturday 15 August starting at 11:00 hours, with a route that will depart from the City Hall and pass through Paseo del Parque, Plaza de la Marina, Alameda Principal, Puerta del Mar, Atarazanas, Plaza de Arriola, Pasillo de Santa Isabel, Carretería, Álamos, Plaza de la Merced, Victoria, and Compás de la Victoria. Streets will be closed as the procession passes and will reopen afterwards, except for those that remain closed due to the Fair in the Centre.
The EMT will activate a special service with 16 special lines starting at 20:00 hours that will connect all districts with the Real de la Feria, in addition to line F, which will link the Fair in the Centre with Cortijo de Torres 24 hours a day. Overall, the service will increase by an average of 25%, reaching up to 40% on working days and 70% on weekends.
The cuts and diversions will be coordinated with the Local Police and supervised from the Traffic Management Centre to ensure smooth flow. Attendees are advised to plan their journeys in advance and consult the City Council's official information for access alternatives.
