The meeting took place in Málaga this Tuesday, during the Fruit Attraction fair, where the Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister of Andalusia, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, met with the officials from the regions of Murcia and Valencia.

Topics discussed in the meeting

During the meeting, Fernández-Pacheco spoke with Joaquín Buendía, Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Murcia, and Miguel Barrachina, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Livestock and Fisheries of the Valencian Generalitat. Among the main topics discussed were territorial unity in water management and updates on the Tajo-Segura transfer. This infrastructure was deemed essential for balance between the regions.

Additionally, the need for a National Water Plan was addressed, and the importance of technology and innovation in the agricultural sector was highlighted to achieve a sustainable production model in Europe.

Commitment to sustainability and territorial solidarity

Fernández-Pacheco emphasized the good communication existing between the communities of eastern Spain, stressing the importance of territorial solidarity. The minister pointed out that water should not be used as a tool for political confrontation, as its scarcity can threaten the sustainability of thousands of hectares of crops and the food sovereignty of Andalusia.
