The Axarquía town concludes a new edition of its aeronautical event with over 300,000 visitors and an economic impact exceeding five million euros, according to the municipal balance.
Torre del Mar has closed the balance of the 2026 edition of the International Air Festival with participation exceeding 300,000 attendees over the weekend, according to data released by the Deputy Mayor's Office of Torre del Mar. This figure consolidates the event as one of the major tourist attractions in the province of Málaga outside the peak summer months.
This year's programme included more than 33 aircraft and 18 display units, with Saturday's training sessions, the Sunset Air Show, and the grand display on Sunday as the main highlights. The event once again transformed the town's promenade into a meeting point for thousands of visitors from various parts of Andalucía.
The Deputy Mayor's Office has emphasised the economic effect of the event, with an impact estimated at over five million euros and hotel and tourist apartment occupancy nearly full over the weekend. Restaurants, beach bars, and shops in Torre del Mar and the wider Vélez-Málaga area are the primary beneficiaries of this influx of visitors.
The balance has also served to respond to criticisms made in recent weeks by opposition political groups in Vélez-Málaga. "Despite the criticisms that, once again, we have heard from certain political sectors permanently entrenched in tension, negativity, and questioning any initiative developed in Torre del Mar, reality has once again spoken for itself," sources from the Deputy Mayor's Office have stated.
"The public has once again vindicated us. They did so when we invested in aeronautical tourism and they do so again when we defend that this Festival is a magnificent tool for attracting visitors once August is over."
One of the central messages of the balance is that "September remains high season in Torre del Mar", a conclusion that reinforces the municipal strategy to seasonally adjust the town's tourist offerings. The aeronautical event has become one of the major tourist brands of the town and an event with a high capacity to attract visitors within the annual calendar of Axarquía.
The municipal organisation has announced that it will continue to invest in the event and its improvement in future editions, aiming for Torre del Mar and the wider Vélez-Málaga area to maintain their status as a tourist reference beyond the traditional summer months.
