The Town Hall of Rincón de la Victoria will inaugurate a viewpoint dedicated to the filmmaker on Friday, October 16, and will launch a film cycle with free screenings from October 16 to 18.
The municipality of Rincón de la Victoria will pay tribute to the filmmaker, researcher, and educator Concha Barquero with the opening of a viewpoint on the Paseo de los Acantilados and the celebration of a film cycle that will bear her name. The mayor, Francisco Salado, presented the events alongside the councillor for Culture, Paz Couto, and the programme coordinators, Héctor Márquez, Alejandro Alvarado, and Anabel Perujo.
The inauguration of the viewpoint will take place on Friday, October 16 at 11:00 AM, in a space located between La Cala del Moral and the core of Rincón de la Victoria. The Town Council unanimously approved dedicating this site to Barquero, who maintained a bond of 25 years with the municipality.
The film cycle will kick off that same Friday afternoon with the screening of Pepe el Andaluz, an autobiographical documentary directed by Alejandro Alvarado and Concha Barquero herself. On Saturday, October 17, Las chicas de rosa will be screened in the morning, followed by Caro Diario by Nanni Moretti in the afternoon. On Sunday, October 18, La estrella azul by Javier Macipe will be shown in the morning, and the cycle will conclude with Aftersun by Charlotte Wells.
The programme also includes a round table on Saturday morning to discuss the creation of a film club that will serve as a meeting point for residents of La Cala del Moral, Rincón de la Victoria, Torre de Benagalbón, and Benagalbón. All screenings will be free entry until full capacity.
“Justice must be done,” stated Mayor Francisco Salado regarding the recognition of Barquero's career.
The councillor for Culture, Paz Couto, noted that these initiatives aim to “keep the legacy of Concha Barquero alive and advocate for cinema as a tool for creation, memory, dialogue, and social transformation.”
Artist Anabel Perujo, a friend and former student of the honouree, explained the artistic concept of the viewpoint: “The proposal consists of a binocular that expands the visitor's view, conceived as a poetic intervention that connects with Barquero's teaching facet.”
Héctor Márquez, who initiated the project alongside Alejandro Alvarado, recalled that the proposal arose after Concha's passing from a reflection published on social media, which received support from over 2,000 people from the fields of culture, cinema, and education.
Concha Barquero passed away last January after an illness she could not overcome. She was a professor in the Department of Audiovisual Communication at the University of Málaga, a film director, researcher, and programmer. In 2026, she was posthumously awarded the Biznaga de Plata at the Málaga Festival.
