The Comprehensive Oral Health Plan in Málaga has recorded a 168 percent increase in child care in 2026 compared to 2022. This information was highlighted by the first vice president and councillor of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, during his visit to the Alameda Perchel health centre.
Growth in Dental Care Coverage
Sanz emphasized that, since the implementation of this plan in 2023, one in three Andalusian children aged between 6 and 15 receives dental care through the public health system. According to the provided data, the number of children treated has grown from 18,214 in 2022 to 48,818 in the first eight months of 2026.
Moreover, the plan has facilitated the inclusion of children aged 0 to 5, with an increase in care for this population, which rose from 2,883 in 2023 to 27,053 in 2026.
Objectives and Service Improvements
Antonio Sanz highlighted the importance of prevention in the service provisions, aimed at reducing oral diseases. According to the councillor, the goal is to offer quality public services that ensure accessibility and equity while satisfying users.
Regarding care for people with disabilities, Sanz reported an 86 percent increase since 2022, as well as an 18 percent rise in assistance for the elderly. This improvement includes specific plans for various patient groups, including pregnant women and individuals with head and neck cancer.
Finally, the development of a training programme for dentists was announced, set to begin on October 15, to specialize them in the early diagnosis of oral lesions and in various areas of dentistry, with the aim of improving the service provided to the child population.
