The officers rescued a 66-year-old man who was on the rooftop of a building in the Los Fernández neighbourhood on August 16. Mayor Francisco Salado has praised those involved.
The Local Police of Rincón de la Victoria prevented a 66-year-old man from taking his own life in the Los Fernández neighbourhood on August 16. The intervention began after a citizen alerted authorities about a person on the rooftop of a building exhibiting behaviour that raised concerns for his life.
A unit consisting of the chief officer and an agent rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers saw the man near the edge, while conversing with a neighbour from a nearby building.
The officers accessed the rooftop, which was locked, with the help of another neighbour. More Local Police officers and a unit from the Guardia Civil later joined to support the operation.
At a moment of distraction from the man, the chief officer approached unexpectedly and firmly restrained him to prevent any risky movements. Another officer assisted him, and together they brought the man to safety in a secure area.
The mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, praised the actions and emphasised “the professionalism, speed, and humanity demonstrated by our Local Police in a particularly delicate situation, where every second was crucial.”
“I want to express my recognition and gratitude to the Local Police officers, as well as to the Guardia Civil and emergency medical services. Once again, our personnel have shown their ability to respond effectively to emergency situations and, above all, their commitment and dedication to service.”
The councillor for Citizen Security, Manuel García, congratulated the officers for “an intervention of enormous complexity, which required a quick, precise, and perfectly coordinated response.” He also announced that the participating police officers will receive recognition during the ceremony in honour of the patron of the Local Police, held annually in September.
After controlling the situation, the officers accompanied the man to his home and stayed there until the arrival of emergency medical services. He was eventually transferred to the Regional University Hospital of Málaga for assessment and specialised care.
