The Maro Wonders Fair will begin on September 4 with the traditional Urban Race, now in its XXXIX edition. The event, presented this Thursday, will include four categories for young athletes.
The Maro Wonders Fair will once again open its festivities with the traditional Urban Race, which will take place on September 4 and this year reaches its XXXIX edition. The event was presented this Thursday by the Sports Councillor of Nerja, Daniel Rivas; the local mayor of Maro, Nuchi Moreno; and the founding member of the Nerja Athletics Club, Enrique López Cuenca.
Daniel Rivas highlighted the deep-rooted nature of an event he considers one of the most established in the local athletics calendar. "We are facing one of the most prominent and established sporting events in our athletics calendar, which also brings together runners of different ages each year. From the Town Hall, we encourage participation and hope everyone enjoys a great evening of athletics in the streets of Maro," he stated.
For her part, Nuchi Moreno emphasised the value of the race within the Maro festivities. "It is a beloved event for the people of Maro and a tradition that has been part of our festivities for nearly four decades. It is a joy to see the streets of Maro filled with runners, families, and athletics enthusiasts, signalling the start of very special days for our village," said the local mayor, who encouraged residents and visitors to participate.
Enrique López Cuenca detailed that four events will take place from 18:30, adapted to different categories. The Under-8 participants will run 400 metres; the Under-10 runners will cover 800 metres; the Under-12 category will run 1,600 metres; and the Under-16 participants will complete a distance of 2,400 metres through the streets of Maro.
Registrations are open and can be made through the Nerja Athletics Club website. It will also be possible to register on the day of the race, up to one hour before it starts, at the Plaza de la Iglesia de las Maravillas.
