The Nerja Town Council has completed the partial stabilisation works of the cliff at Balcón de Europa, on its western side, with an investment of €66,066.

The Nerja Town Council has announced the completion of the partial stabilisation works of the cliff at Balcón de Europa, on its western slope. The project, which involved an investment of €66,066, was received by the mayor, José Alberto Armijo, who signed the acceptance report for the works.

The works were carried out over an approximate area of 300 square metres, at one of the most sensitive points of the slope, next to La Caletilla beach. The intervention included the cleaning and removal of unstable materials, as well as the installation of a protective triple-twisted galvanised mesh, secured with 24 bolts drilled eight metres deep and steel cabling.

Additionally, a landscaping restoration of the area has been carried out through the planting of native species, aimed at preserving the natural value of the site. The mayor highlighted that this action contributes to the ongoing preservation of one of Nerja's most representative spaces, reinforcing the safety of the cliff without compromising its scenic and natural value.

The funding for the works was provided by the Territorial Delegation of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía, through a grant aimed at Tourist Municipalities, directed at the conservation and improvement of tourist and cultural spaces. The intervention also received the authorisation of the Territorial Delegation of Culture.

With this intervention, Balcón de Europa adds a new improvement aimed at ensuring the conservation and safety of one of the most visited and photographed places in Nerja. The cliff, which offers a panoramic view of the coast, is a landmark for tourists and residents, and its stability is essential for the safety of walkers and bathers at La Caletilla beach.

The works, which lasted several weeks, have been closely monitored by local residents and merchants, who see Balcón de Europa as a key tourist driver for the local economy. The completion of the works is a relief for those who feared possible landslides, especially after the heavy rains of recent months.

The Nerja Town Council has thanked the collaboration of the Junta de Andalucía and the municipal technicians who supervised the work. According to municipal sources, new actions in other areas of the cliff are not ruled out if geotechnical studies recommend them.

For now, Balcón de Europa regains its usual appearance, with the protective mesh integrated into the landscape and the new plantings that will help stabilise the ground. Visitors can once again enjoy this viewpoint with complete safety.
