The Municipal Music School of Antequera (EMMA) will begin the 2026/2027 academic year on October 1 with an expected enrollment of between 500 and 600 students. This was announced on Tuesday by the Councillor for Culture and Historical Heritage, José Medina Galeote, and the director of the centre, Joaquín Castro, at a press conference where they detailed the educational offerings.
The programme covers everything from the first months of life to instrumental and vocal training for adults. There is music for babies aged 0 to 36 months and music and movement for children aged 3 to 6 years. As for specialties, electric bass, violin, flamenco guitar, classical guitar, electric guitar, piano, drums, brass and woodwind instruments, ukulele, and flamenco cajón are taught, along with singing, flamenco singing, dance, flamenco dancing, and music theory.
The group practice section includes folk, rock and pop combos, jazz and blues, gospel choir, and music band. The main novelty of the course is the incorporation of a band of cornets and drums, which expands the options for musical participation.
The Councillor for Culture highlighted the interest that musical training generates among people of all ages and the role of EMMA as a municipal space for learning and meeting.
“Making music is not just about making the instrument sound,” but also “playing together,” sharing emotions, and creating community.
The school director praised the work of a team of nearly twenty people among teachers and administrative staff, and thanked the support of the City Council for providing “quality and affordable” music education. Castro also recalled the centre's contribution to the cultural life of Antequera through exhibitions by the Antequerana Photographic Group (AFA) and the EMMA Hall, where concerts and theatrical performances are held.
Enrollment continues to be open, although much of the schedule is already organized and the availability of places varies by specialty. Interested individuals can visit the school in the afternoon to learn about the educational offerings and formalize their registration.
