The Councillor for Culture, José Medina Galeote, has presented the programme of municipal workshops and schools, which will start on October 1 at the Santa Clara Cultural Centre and other spaces in the city.
The Councillor for Culture of the Antequera City Council, José Medina Galeote, has presented the offer of municipal workshops and schools for the 2026-2027 academic year. Activities will begin from October 1, according to the schedule of each school and workshop.
The programme includes music, theatre, dance, visual arts, writing, and crafts, as well as proposals linked to local traditions and workshops for children. The spaces that will host the classes are the Santa Clara Cultural Centre, the San Zoilo Municipal Library, the Casa de la Cultura on Calle Carreteros, the Municipal School of Music, the Bullring, and the Multipurpose Building of La Joya.
In performing arts and music, the Antequera Municipal School of Music (EMMA), the Antequera Theatre Cultural Association, the Ana Pastrana Flamenco School, and ballet and contemporary dance classes by Elena Nieto will participate, the latter for students aged between 3 and 18 years. Latin dance classes with Rafael Martín, proposals from the Antequera Baila Association, and copla classes for adults by Montse Delgado are also offered.
Local traditions will be present with the Antequera folklore from the Azucena Folklore Group and the verdiales from the Panda San Gabriel de La Joya. Both proposals are free and aimed at children and adults. In the case of the verdiales, the classes of music, singing, and dance will take place in the Multipurpose Building of La Joya, organised by the Provincial Council of Málaga in collaboration with the Antequera City Council.
The offer includes gold embroidery workshops by José Rodríguez, cutting and sewing by María del Carmen Rodríguez, and pattern-making workshops by Jesús Sierras. Additionally, painting classes by Fátima Morente and Ángeles Miranda are open to children and adults.
The San Zoilo Municipal Library will host free creative writing workshops for adults coordinated by Rocío Testa and Juan Antonio López. Medina Galeote highlighted the activity of both groups and the growing interest these proposals generate.
“These workshops offer much more than learning a discipline; they promote coexistence, personal relationships, and the creation of a community around culture,” the councillor noted.
Among the new offerings this year is a stress reduction workshop for adults, taught by Benjamín J. Martín at the Santa Clara Cultural Centre. The councillor emphasised the importance of having spaces that allow for a pause in daily life and dedicate time to personal well-being.
For children, Artemanitas and Lettering are offered, aimed at children aged between 4 and 12 years, as well as Friki Fridays, for participants aged between 6 and 14 years. All three activities will be led by Paqui Rodríguez and will take place at the Santa Clara Cultural Centre.
