The jewels of the Virgin of Aurora from Cañete la Real are back. The Parish Group has confirmed the recovery of the pieces that were stolen days ago from the statue, as reported by Diario Sur, and has publicly thanked the Ronda Civil Guard Investigation Group for locating them.
The theft occurred on the morning of Friday, September 18, when the church was open and there was activity inside due to the preparations for the Feast of Our Lady of Caños Santos. Taking advantage of these circumstances, a woman allegedly accessed the area where the Virgin of Aurora is located and stole several pieces that adorned the statue.
Two people witnessed the event, and the parish's security cameras also recorded the incident, which allowed the identification of the alleged perpetrator as a local resident. The church initially attempted to recover the jewels without resorting to police intervention, but ultimately filed a complaint after their efforts did not lead to recovery.
Among the missing pieces were various elements of the Virgin's belongings, donated by the faithful over the years. The parish estimated a total value close to €4,000, although from the very beginning, it was emphasized that their importance went far beyond their monetary valuation.

This was stated by the Parish Group of Aurora in a statement, in which they expressed their gratitude to the Ronda Civil Guard Investigation Group for their “work and dedication” in recovering the pieces. The group also recalls the relationship it maintains with the armed institute, to which they dedicate a lift each year during the events related to the Virgin as a recognition of their service.
