Jordi, Israel, Edu, Gonzalo, Alexis and Ale, six 12-year-old friends, found a heron that could not move near their cabin in Ardales and called the Civil Guard, who coordinated the rescue of the bird.
Six friends aged 12 from Ardales were involved in the rescue of an injured heron that they found near the small cabin they often visit, not far from their homes. The minors, Jordi, Israel, Edu, Gonzalo, Alexis and Ale, saw the large bird from a distance and thought that it would fly away as they approached, but they realised it could barely move.
Two of them, Jordi and Gonzalo, decided to call the Civil Guard directly, as reported by Diario Sur. The officers guided them over the phone and provided a number to send a video of the animal to check its condition. While help was on the way, the children followed the instructions to keep the heron calm and prevent it from getting agitated.
“They got closer and saw that it couldn't walk or anything,” recounts Nuria González, Jordi's mother.
The scene left a family anecdote. When Nuria's husband left the house and saw the Civil Guard with the kids, his first reaction was to think that one of them had done something wrong. “He saw the Civil Guard and thought: 'They've done something again,'” she recalls.
Nuria González emphasises that the group's concern was solely for the animal: “They didn't think about taking a photo or anything like that. They thought about the poor bird that couldn't fly.” The heron was picked up to receive veterinary care. For the mother, what happened is a source of pride for all the members of the gang, friends for years: “They solved the problem faster than an adult would.”
The six friends have returned to their usual routine in the Málaga municipality, while the bird receives the assistance it needed.
