The City Council of Antequera has presented the sixth edition of the School Painting Contest Ciudad de Antequera, aimed at students aged 9 to 17. Works can be submitted until 14:00 on October 28 at educational centres.
Schoolchildren from Antequera and its outlying areas aged 9 to 17 can now participate in the VI School Painting Contest Ciudad de Antequera. The initiative is promoted by the Community of Property Owners of the Antequera Industrial Estate with the sponsorship of the Unicaja Foundation and the City Council of Antequera, which hosted the presentation this Wednesday, September 30.
The submission period for works will remain open until 14:00 on Wednesday, October 28. Each participant must submit their work, a single original piece, at their corresponding educational centre. The theme must be related to the city of Antequera: landscapes, people, monuments, or corners. The technique is free to choose among oil, pastel, acrylic, tempera, or watercolour.
The contest establishes four age categories: 9 and 10 years, 11 and 12, 13 and 14, and 15 to 17. In each category, there will be a first prize of €150 in materials and painting supports and a second prize of €100. In previous editions, the call exceeded 700 participants.
“Each participant interprets our city in a different way, and that diversity is precisely one of the great riches of this contest,” said the councillor for Industrial Estates, Paqui Sánchez.
The councillor for Culture, José Medina Galeote, linked the contest to the National Painting Contest Ciudad de Antequera as a breeding ground for future artists and valued that schoolchildren and their families can later see the selected works in a public exhibition. The president of the Community of Property Owners of the Industrial Estate, José Antonio Barón, thanked the involvement of educational centres and Plastic Arts teachers, as well as the municipal support and that of the Unicaja Foundation.
On behalf of the Unicaja Foundation, its head of Plastic Arts, Emilia Garrido, explained that contact with painting and creative processes helps young people discover new ways of observing their environment and develop a personal perspective.
The selected works will be exhibited at the Andalusian Art Gallery Ciudad de Antequera, located at Infante Don Fernando number 67, from November 28, 2026, to January 10, 2027. The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 27 at 19:30, also at the Gallery.
