The Junta de Andalucía is funding the repair of the road surface to the Torcal Alto Visitor Centre with over €150,000, damaged by storms earlier this year. The work includes hot mix asphalt and asphalt emulsion to improve safety for vehicles and cyclists.
The Mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, and the territorial delegate for Sustainability and Environment of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga, Gemma del Corral, visited the start of the improvement and resurfacing works on the access road to the Torcal Alto Visitor Centre in the natural area of El Torcal de Antequera this Friday. The project has an investment from the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment exceeding €150,000.
The work consists of renewing the road surface through the application of hot mix asphalt and bituminous emulsion. The aim is to repair the damage caused by the storms recorded earlier this year and to improve safety conditions for vehicles, cyclists, and other road users. Also present during the visit were the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Commerce and World Heritage, Ana Cebrián, and the Deputy Mayor for Works, Teresa Molina.
Barón explained that the intervention responds to a motion from the Popular Group approved in the Antequera City Council plenary session last July. The mayor thanked the Junta for their response and pointed out that the improvement of access directly benefits visitors to the area.

The mayor also emphasised the importance of maintaining constant attention to El Torcal, part of the Dolmens of Antequera site, recognised as a World Heritage site alongside the megalithic monuments and the Peña de los Enamorados.
For her part, Gemma del Corral indicated that this work responds to a municipal demand and is part of efforts to improve the management of the area and the visitor experience. The delegate recalled the high annual influx of users at the Visitor Centre, which makes it necessary to balance public use with the conservation of the environment. In this regard, she announced that improvements in visitor control and technological tools to manage influx and enhance safety will be implemented in the coming months.
The resurfacing is part of the emergency plan of the Junta de Andalucía to repair the damage caused by storms in facilities of protected natural spaces, forest roads, and livestock paths. In the province of Málaga, the programme has a total investment of €4,547,950 and includes more than 90 actions.
