The Vox councillor in Torremolinos, José Macías, has urged the PP government team to act urgently in the urban-forest interface areas of the municipality due to the high risk of fires.

Its councillor, José Macías, has urged the City Council, governed by the PP, to implement an immediate action plan in the urban-forest interface areas of the municipality. In a statement, Macías warned that the accumulation of weeds and rubbish in abandoned plots, both public and private, represents "tons of a high load of spontaneous fuel in the middle of summer."
The councillor pointed out that while "half of Spain is burning," Torremolinos lacks a real prevention plan and does not require the mandatory cleaning of these lands. "The mayor, Margarita del Cid, prefers to look the other way instead of acting," Macías criticised, warning that "all that material is tons of a high load of spontaneous fuel in the middle of summer."
Macías detailed the critical points identified by his party. The first is the Cañada de los Cardos and Océano Street, an area that directly borders scrubland and pine forest, creating a continuity of plant fuel "ideal for the rapid spread of fire if safety zones are not maintained."
Another highlighted location is the Los Manantiales Complex, which includes the Molino de Inca and Molino de Batán. This is an area of great botanical value that, being adjacent to the motorway and surrounded by the Pinar de los Manantiales, "any ignition near the transport infrastructures or in the forest mass endangers this natural heritage," explained the councillor.
Finally, he mentioned the area of the Municipal Nursery and its surroundings, where uncut plots act as sensitive points. "Fires can gain strength quickly if they connect with the continuous pine forest," Macías warned.
The Vox councillor insisted on the need to act "before we have to regret a greater tragedy due to fire risk." The request comes amid a heatwave and after severe fires recorded in other Spanish provinces in recent weeks.
The municipal group has reminded that Torremolinos has critical urban-forest interface areas where the proximity of dense mountain vegetation to homes "exponentially increases the risk of forest fires." Therefore, they demand that the government team urgently adopt measures, such as cleaning plots and establishing safety zones.
So far, the Torremolinos City Council has not publicly responded to Vox's demands. The party hopes that the PP will heed their request and implement an action plan to prevent possible disasters.
