The Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office hosts in September an exhibition by Russian artist Eugenio Patrakov, featuring watercolours of the 52 Spanish provinces and a section dedicated to the municipality.
The Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office is hosting throughout September the exhibition ‘Your Spain in Watercolour’, by artist Eugenio Patrakov. The exhibition presents an illustrated journey through the 52 Spanish provinces with watercolours that capture cultural, historical, natural, and gastronomic elements from each region.
The Councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez, explained that the exhibition is part of the monthly programming of exhibitions at the venue. “On this occasion, we have a Russian artist who has been in Spain for several years and who was particularly struck by the enormous diversity that exists among our provinces, from landscapes and gastronomy to customs and traditions,” he noted.
Patrakov has been working on this project for about four years, born from his travels and his interest in discovering a Spain that goes beyond Madrid or Barcelona. Each province is represented by a watercolour in which the artist gathers the elements that have caught his attention the most.
The exhibition includes a dedicated space for Mijas with larger works featuring recognizable places from the municipality. “It is very nice to see what catches the attention of someone from outside and how they translate that onto paper. In his watercolours of Mijas, we immediately recognise places like the hermitage or the Compás,” Jerez pointed out.
The councillor has encouraged locals and visitors to come by during these weeks to discover “Spain through the eyes of someone who has come from outside and has shown interest in our diversity.” The exhibition allows “a small journey through all of Spain without leaving Mijas Pueblo.”
‘Your Spain in Watercolour’ can be visited at the Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 15:00 hours.
