The Marbella Town Hall is celebrating the II Memorial Ana Mesa this Friday, July 24, a football tournament in Nueva Andalucía with eight teams and a hundred participants.
The Marbella Town Hall will pay tribute this Friday, July 24, to Ana Mesa, one of the most emblematic figures in grassroots sports in Nueva Andalucía, with the celebration of the II Memorial bearing her name. The football tournament will bring together a hundred athletes in the senior and veterans categories, in an event that combines competition and remembrance.
The councillor for the Nueva Andalucía district, Vanessa Ortiz de Zárate, presented the event alongside the sports delegation advisor, Juan Jesús Cabrera, and the honouree's daughter, Estefanía Mesa. Ortiz de Zárate highlighted that Ana Mesa "was a role model not only as a woman, friend, and mother, but also as a great promoter of football, who dedicated her life to advancing this discipline and training generations of children and young people."
The tournament will kick off at 19:00 hours at the 11-a-side football pitch of the Juan José Almagro annex and at the central 7-a-side pitch. Eight teams will participate: in the senior category, Los Granados, Rayo Malagueño, Fantasimón, and Babuinos; in veterans, CES Nueva Andalucía, La 14, La Campana Hermanos Contreras, and CD Marbellí.
The trophy presentation will take place on Saturday, July 25, during the events of the Feria de Nueva Andalucía, at the municipal booth of the fairground. In this way, the memorial is integrated into the festive programme of the district, which this year includes more than fifty activities.
Juan Jesús Cabrera emphasised the emotional nature of an event that "touches the hearts of all who knew Ana." He noted that she was "a fighter who promoted not only football in Nueva Andalucía but also values that she instilled in hundreds of children and young people who are still connected to this sport today." Cabrera also recalled that Ana Mesa was previously recognised at the Marbella Sports Gala and stressed that "she was an emblematic woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, but she demonstrated extraordinary strength and left a legacy that will endure over time."
For her part, Estefanía Mesa expressed gratitude for the Town Hall's support and the affection that her mother's figure continues to receive. "As a family, we are very grateful that this memorial continues to be held every year in her memory; everything done in her name is very beautiful for us," she stated.
The II Memorial Ana Mesa thus establishes itself as an annual event that not only promotes grassroots football but also keeps alive the memory of a woman who dedicated her life to sport in Nueva Andalucía. Local residents and fans are invited to attend both the tournament on Friday and the trophy presentation on Saturday at the municipal booth of the fair.
