A reference trajectory on the Costa del Sol
Muñoz has highlighted the trajectory of Aspandem, which has become a reference on the Costa del Sol and throughout Andalusia. She praised the work of its president, María José Morales, and the team of professionals. "They have been betting on innovation and the full inclusion of their users for many years," the mayor pointed out.
The mayor emphasized that "every euro the City Council contributes to Aspandem is the best investment we can make." She particularly highlighted the early intervention that the entity develops, with therapies in the early stages of childhood, early diagnosis, and support for families.
"They carry out extraordinary work with therapies in the early stages of childhood, betting on early diagnosis and offering support to many families who, at certain times, need guidance, training, and accompaniment to care for their loved ones," Muñoz explained.
More than 960 users assisted
Currently, Aspandem provides care to nearly a thousand people through a wide network of specialized resources. The entity has two early childhood care centres for children aged 0 to 6 years, located in Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara; a concerted educational centre with the Junta de Andalucía; four day centres, three of which provide occupational therapy and another for severely affected individuals; a residential centre with units for adults and those with high dependency; a special employment centre and services such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, psychology, or aquatic activity programmes.
The mayor also valued the nursery of the association, which promotes the training and employment integration of people with disabilities. "It allows vocational training to become a reality and enables many individuals to enter the job market and develop as full citizens," Morales indicated.
The gratitude of Aspandem
For her part, the president of Aspandem, María José Morales, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the City Council and highlighted the importance of the annual agreements. "For us, it is a great satisfaction to have this support, as it allows us to provide a higher quality to the services we offer," she stated.
Morales explained that the basic projects of the entity are guaranteed by agreements with public administrations, but specified that "this complementary care, these resources that make a difference for each user and their families, are made possible thanks to the support we receive from the local institution." She specifically thanked the support of the mayor and the deputy mayor of San Pedro Alcántara, Javier García.
The renewal of the agreements will be signed soon and will ensure the continuity of the services that Aspandem offers to people with disabilities in Marbella and its surroundings. Local residents can rest assured: early intervention, vocational training, and family support will continue to be a priority.
