The Local Government Board of Marbella approves the creation of 26 Local Police positions, which adds to the 25 agents already in training. The 2026 budget for the force exceeds 31 million euros, a 15% increase.
The Local Government Board of Marbella approved on Tuesday the creation of 26 new Local Police positions, a measure that adds to the 25 agents currently in training. This was announced by the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, during the celebrations for the Patron Saints of the Corps, the archangels Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel, and Saint Raphael.
Muñoz highlighted that the measure aims to "complete a workforce that is necessary for the population of our municipality." The mayor emphasised that Marbella is "a complex locality, which hosts large events and has 600 developments, and due to its multinational nature, it requires being and being very professional and having all the necessary resources."
The mayor framed this decision within the municipal effort to strengthen the force, which will have a budget allocation for 2026 exceeding 31 million euros, a 15 percent increase compared to the previous year. According to Muñoz, these funds will be used to "have more personnel, better resources, and increasingly specialised training."
The commemorative events began with a review in the Plaza de la Iglesia and a Holy Mass, and continued with the presentation of more than 80 medals, decorations, and recognitions to agents for their career, merit, and service, as well as to individuals and entities that have collaborated with the police force. Among the awardees are retired personnel and agents with 15, 25, 30, 35, and 45 years of service, in addition to medals for police merit with a white distinction, individual public distinctions from the Plenary, medals of homage and collaboration with the Local Police, and plaques of appreciation.
The event was attended by the chief of the Local Police of Ceuta, José Antonio Sorroche, invited by the City Council to receive recognition for the entire Ceuta police force. Muñoz stated that Marbella wants to convey "all the affection to the people of Ceuta and their security forces for the responsibility they are assuming in particularly complex times." Sorroche expressed gratitude for the "demonstrated support" and called for it to continue so that the people of Ceuta "do not forget us and continue to back us."
The chief of the Local Police of Marbella, Francisco Florentino Ruiz, thanked the Government team for approving the new positions and emphasised that for the force it means "something incredible and magnificent, as the incorporation of new agents is especially necessary to meet the needs of a city like Marbella, especially during events." Ruiz stressed that the goal is "to continue being a modern police force of the 21st century."
The measure was approved on the same day that the City Council recognised the work of the staff and focused on the human dimension of the service. The mayor extended the recognition to the families of the agents, whom she defined as "an essential part of this Local Police."
