The Marbella Town Hall has completed the renovation of the Specialized Sports Training Centre for Rhythmic Gymnastics, with an investment of nearly 1.5 million euros. The work doubles the sports capacity and turns it into a national and international reference.
The Marbella Town Hall has announced the completion of the comprehensive renovation of the Specialized Sports Training Centre for Rhythmic Gymnastics, a project that has involved an investment of nearly 1.5 million euros. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, visited the facilities on Wednesday to oversee the final details of the environment's adaptation and the provision of equipment.
The intervention has allowed for a complete modernization of the venue, with special attention to the roof, which now reaches 17 meters in height, eliminating the limitations that existed in some areas of the pavilion. This improvement has enabled the sports capacity to be doubled, increasing from two to four competition mats, which, according to Muñoz, represents “the largest number of mats currently available at the national level.”
The mayor highlighted that the centre is “closely linked to Marbella, a town with a huge tradition in this discipline that hosts numerous gymnasts, not only from Andalusia and Spain but also from various countries around the world who come here to train.” The project has been made possible thanks to European Next Generation funds, in collaboration with the Andalusian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation.
“We have probably the best rhythmic gymnastics facility in Spain and one of the best in the world, along with the privilege of Marbella's climate,” Muñoz emphasized. The mayor stressed that this new equipment will strengthen the city's position as a reference destination for elite athletes, as “we are a magnet for many gymnasts because here they find exceptional facilities, an ideal place to train, and also to live and establish their sports base.”
In addition to increasing the usable space for training, the project incorporates a new gym area specifically for the physical preparation of athletes, a facility that the centre previously lacked. The work has also focused on energy efficiency and sustainability, with a new thermal envelope that maintains a stable temperature throughout the year, minimizing the need for conventional air conditioning and the associated energy consumption.
The roof includes a photovoltaic panel installation to promote self-consumption and minimize the building's environmental impact. The mayor thanked the work carried out in collaboration with the Andalusian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation and, especially, with its president, Angelo Madroñal, “with whom we have worked hand in hand to make this project a reality.”
Muñoz announced that the official inauguration of the Training Centre will take place next September, coinciding with the start of the regular activities of the facilities. “It has been done with a lot of care, involving great experts, and the result leaves us all fully satisfied: the Federation itself, the Training Centre, and of course, the Marbella Town Hall,” she added.
The centre, which already functions as a training hub, hosts gymnasts from different countries who choose Marbella for training due to its climatic conditions and the quality of the facilities. With this renovation, the Town Hall aims to consolidate the city as an international reference for the practice and training of rhythmic gymnastics.
The investment of 1.5 million euros has been financed with European funds, which has allowed for an unprecedented comprehensive renovation. The mayor recalled that the centre is “closely linked to Marbella” and that the city has a huge tradition in this discipline, making this project a milestone for local sports.
With the new configuration, the centre doubles its capacity and becomes one of the most advanced facilities in Spain, with four competition mats and a specific gym. Energy efficiency has been another pillar, with a thermal envelope and solar panels that will reduce consumption and environmental impact.
