The construction of the new Clean Point in San Pedro Alcántara, covering 3,400 square meters and with a budget of 1.2 million euros, will begin next Monday. The facility, located in the Industrial Estate, will serve the residents of the district.
Next Monday, the works for the new Clean Point in San Pedro Alcántara will commence, a facility that will have a surface area of 3,400 square meters and a budget of 1.2 million euros. This was announced by the deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier García, after the Local Government Board approved the start of the works. The infrastructure will be located in the second phase of the Industrial Estate, on Malta Street, next to the ITV station.
An infrastructure to facilitate recycling
The new clean point will have facilities for the reception and classification of different types of household waste, as well as specific containers for special waste, such as electrical and electronic devices or appliances that require special treatment. García explained that the aim is to “help facilitate recycling and reduce uncontrolled dumping.”
The project has completed all its administrative procedures, including safety and health procedures, technical direction, and other actions derived from the contracting file. The expected execution period is six months, so it is anticipated to be operational by mid-2026.
The plot, which is distributed over two platforms, will include a loading and classification area, covered storage areas, a control booth for public service, and parking spaces for users. A video surveillance system has also been planned to enhance control and ensure the proper functioning of the facilities.
Response to a community demand
The previous provisional clean point in San Pedro Alcántara had to be closed several years ago after suffering a fire, which forced residents to travel to the facilities in Marbella or the treatment plant in Casares to dispose of waste that cannot be eliminated through regular collection. According to the councillor, this situation led to the emergence of uncontrolled dumping in the area.
With the new infrastructure, residents of the district will have a stable service for the proper management of household and special waste, avoiding long trips. “The aim is to provide a nearby alternative for residents and reduce the uncontrolled dumping that has been recorded in recent years,” García emphasized.
Once deposited, the waste will be collected by municipal services for transfer to authorized treatment plants, in accordance with current waste management regulations. The new facility will serve more than 30,000 inhabitants of San Pedro Alcántara and its surroundings.
The works, which begin this Monday, will last for six months. In the meantime, residents can continue to use the clean point in Marbella or the Casares plant to dispose of their special waste.
