The Goyanes Lapique family repeats the charity tournament at the Unicorn Racket Club from August 3 to 7. More than forty brands are collaborating and the categories range from prebenjamín to cadete.
The memory of Carlos Goyanes returns to the padel court in Marbella. The second edition of the Memorial bearing his name will be held from August 3 to 7 at the Unicorn Racket Club, organised by his daughter Carla Goyanes and supported by his mother, Cari Lapique. The tournament, which began last summer as a family initiative, aims to establish itself as an annual event on the Costa del Sol.
The first edition brought together 72 pairs and this year the offering is expanded with four categories: prebenjamín, infantil, and cadete, for both males and females. All participants will receive a welcome pack and there will be prizes for champions, runners-up, and consolation winners. More than forty commercial brands have donated gifts for the players.
Cari Lapique explains that the idea came from her daughter Carla, who has worked throughout the year on the organisation of the event, balancing it with her work in real estate. "It was an idea from Alfonso de Hohenlohe and Carlos was one of the pioneers and promoters of padel. He was very good at it and won all the matches," Lapique recalls about her late husband. "My grandchildren are just like their grandfather. They are passionate about sports and excel at padel," she adds.
The tournament has a charitable and non-profit nature. Its aim is to keep the legacy of Carlos Goyanes alive through one of the sports he was most passionate about. "It’s a legacy that will last forever," says Cari Lapique, who highlights her daughter Carla's "impressive work ethic."
Beyond the competition, the Memorial aims to be a meeting point for players, families, and friends mainly from Madrid, Marbella, and Sotogrande. Values such as friendship, effort, coexistence, and sportsmanship are promoted. The inauguration is scheduled for August 3, with the presence of Cari Lapique, Carla, and the grandchildren.
The Goyanes Lapique family faces this summer with a mix of sadness over the loss of Carlos and Caritina Goyanes (who passed away in 2024) and the hope of keeping their memory alive. Cari Lapique will spend the summer season in Sotogrande with her sister Myriam, where she feels supported. "On the 3rd, I will be at the inauguration with Carla and the grandchildren. It’s going to be a very beautiful championship for what it means to all of us," she concludes.
