The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the Environment councillor, Pilar Zúñiga, have visited the temporary animal shelter and other facilities. Since January, 134 specimens have been attended to.
The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the Environment councillor, Pilar Zúñiga, have visited the temporary animal shelter in the municipality, a rapid transfer hub to larger centres that complies with the Animal Welfare law.
During the visit, the councillors attended an informative meeting with the Environment delegation and a representative of the Local Police to review the data of the actions recorded by this municipal service since last January. In total, 134 domestic and wild specimens have been attended to; of these, 39 have been rehomed, while the rest have been returned to their owners or referred to specialised zoological centres or their habitat.
Jiménez explained that this service has alleviated the Local Police. The third point of the visit was one of the managed cat colonies, located in the area of Bahía de las Rocas. In the municipality, there are 36 registered feline colonies and 46 accredited volunteer caretakers.
The Town Hall calls for awareness of animals and respect for these cat colonies, which manage the feline populations in the locality.
