Mayor Ana Mula has conveyed the Corporation's congratulations to the athletes from Fuengirola who have achieved victories in karate, table tennis, paddlesurf, and athletics in recent weeks.
The Plenary of the Fuengirola City Council approved an institutional motion in its ordinary session in July to publicly congratulate several athletes from the city for their achievements in various competitions. The mayor, Ana Mula, was responsible for conveying the recognition on behalf of the entire Corporation, highlighting that the successes achieved are the result of talent, effort, discipline, and perseverance, and that they constitute a source of pride for the city.
Among those honoured is the Fuengirola Karate Club, which won 23 medals at the Andalucía Trophy held on June 13 in Antequera, where it topped the overall medal table. The club's karatekas achieved 12 golds, 5 silvers, and 6 bronzes in a championship that brought together more than 650 participants. The mayor emphasised that the club is consolidating as a reference for karate at the Andalusian level.
In table tennis, Daniel López López from the Fuengirola Table Tennis Club has been congratulated for his participation in the Top-24 of the best players in the Honor League of Andalucía, where he ranked first in Group 6. The championship took place on June 13 and 14 in Vegas del Genil (Granada). The club continues to train during the summer at the Elola pavilion.
In water sports, the SUP RACE team from the Fuengirola Nautical Club has received a special mention. Young Nora Lhassar Estable was crowned Absolute Champion of Spain in paddlesurf at the championship held in Villanueva and Geltrú (Barcelona) on May 2 and 3, also achieving the title in her under-12 category in the Sprint, Technical, and Long Distance modalities. Additionally, several club members achieved podium finishes at the XI Discover Huelva SUP Festival Isla Cristina Beach Race, an event integrated into the National League of the Spanish Surf Federation, held on July 11 in Isla Cristina (Huelva). Results included golds for Nora Lhassar (under-14), Ana Estable (Elite Master Women), and Abel Porras (Elite Master Men), among others.
In athletics, local athlete Avril Macel has been recognised as the sub-champion of Andalucía under-18 in the summer season. The City Council also wanted to highlight her dedication and the work of local clubs in training young athletes.
The institutional declaration, unanimously approved, reflects the council's support for grassroots sports and local talent. The mayor encouraged athletes to keep working hard and reminded them that Fuengirola is a city committed to sports.
