The Civil Guard, together with the National Republican Guard (GNR) of Portugal, has dismantled a criminal organisation dedicated to drug trafficking that operated between the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula, specifically in Ayamonte and Portugal.
Civil Guard Operation in Ayamonte
The operation, known as "Trident", began on August 20, when a drug stash house was located in a property in Ayamonte, Huelva. During this operation, three members of the organisation were arrested and 132 bales of hashish were seized, weighing a total of 5,280 kg.
In addition, the authorities intervened six vehicles, five of which were stolen and modified to conceal narcotics. Two weapons were also recovered, a pistol and an assault rifle, both ready for use. The detainees have been placed at the disposal of the judiciary and have been remanded in custody.
Intervention in Portugal
Two days later, on August 22, a second operation was carried out on Portuguese territory, where another drug stash house was located on the banks of the Guadiana River. In this action, 133 more bales of hashish were intercepted, weighing a total of 5,320 kg, as well as three vehicles and a pistol.
Some members of the organisation attempted to flee in a boat, but were apprehended thanks to the collaboration of both bodies, which implemented an aerial, maritime, and ground deployment. Seven people were arrested and placed at the disposal of the judiciary in Portugal, where they also entered provisional detention.
The successful collaboration between the Civil Guard and the GNR has allowed for the dismantling of a drug trafficking network operating in the peninsula, representing a significant blow to drug trafficking in the region.
