The Town Hall of Casares has opened the registration period to participate in the ninth Route of the Recoveras, which will take place on 23rd and 24th October. Spots are limited to 100 participants and registrations are managed at the Casa Natal de Blas Infante.

The ninth edition of the Route of the Recoveras now has dates: 23rd and 24th October. The Town Hall of Casares has opened the registration period to participate in this initiative that, since 2017, remembers the women who, during the post-war period, walked the 50 kilometres that separate Casares from La Línea to support their families.

Interested individuals can register at the Casa Natal de Blas Infante, by calling 600 413 121 or writing to turismo@casares.es. The quota is limited to 100 participants.

The route, reconstructed by cartographer Manuel Galán with the help of descendants of these women, can be completed in full or in sections. The recoveras carried eggs and other farm products that they sold or exchanged at the border of Gibraltar for scarce items during Franco's regime, such as chocolate, coffee, sugar, and tobacco.

In addition to the route, the programme includes a meeting on Friday 23rd October between relatives of the recoveras from Casares and the matuteras from Jimena, women who also travelled to Gibraltar to obtain hard-to-find products and sell them in their localities.

The activity is organised by the Town Hall of Casares, in collaboration with the Andalusian Association for Solidarity and Peace (ASPA). Notably participating is the local resident Ana Mora, author of Gertrudis, la recovera, the story of her grandmother published in comic format with illustrations by the cartoonist Luis Pernía Ibáñez.
