The municipality of Benalmádena has been the scene of the inauguration of the restoration of Castillo El Bil Bil and the new Tourist Office, carried out by Patricia Navarro, the representative of the Andalusian Government in Málaga. This project has received funding of over 940,000 euros, as part of the Sustainable Tourism Plan for Destinations.
Tourism investment in Málaga
During the event, Navarro emphasised the importance of the Sustainable Tourism Plans for Destinations (PSTD), which mobilise over 37 million euros to modernise and make tourism in the province more sustainable. These plans aim to adapt infrastructures and services to the new demands of visitors, with a focus on sustainability and digitalisation.
The representative highlighted that tourism is one of the main economic drivers of Málaga, and noted that projects on the Costa del Sol involve a total investment of over 22.5 million euros aimed at improving heritage, public spaces, and sustainable mobility.
Improvements at Castillo El Bil Bil
The renovation of Castillo El Bil Bil and the new Tourist Office reflect the Junta's new approach to tourism infrastructures, incorporating improvements in energy efficiency and accessibility. The new office includes modern spaces, public service areas, and an exhibition area that highlights local history and gastronomy.
The works have modernised the adjoining building, improving its insulation and renewing electrical and plumbing installations. At the Castle, the relocation of the Tourist Office has allowed for more space for cultural and exhibition activities, while sustainability solutions such as the installation of photovoltaic panels have been implemented.
Patricia Navarro concluded her speech by highlighting the Junta de Andalucía's commitment to improving quality of life and economic development through investments in the tourism sector. For his part, the mayor of Benalmádena, Juan Antonio Lara, stated that these works represent a turning point for one of the municipality's most emblematic buildings.
This joint effort not only seeks to revitalise the heritage of Benalmádena but also to offer a more innovative and accessible tourist experience, thus enriching the Costa del Sol's offerings throughout the year.
