The Junta invests 3 million in renewing the A-357, the key motorway for the Serranía de Ronda

The Ministry of Development has started this week the resurfacing works on a ten-kilometre stretch, during night hours to minimise inconvenience to the more than 74,000 vehicles that use it daily.

The machines are already working on the A-357, the motorway that connects the Serranía de Ronda with the capital of Málaga. The Junta de Andalucía has begun the renewal of the surface on a ten-kilometre stretch with an investment of three million euros, as part of the Road Resurfacing Plan for autonomous roads.

The works are being carried out at night to avoid disrupting the heavy traffic that this road endures, with an average of 74,000 vehicles daily. The work starts in the Málaga-interior direction, from the capital to the Málaga Tech business park, and will extend to both lanes.

A vital artery for the residents of Ronda

For the residents of the Serranía de Ronda, the A-357 is much more than a road: it is the main access route to the capital for work, study, or medical appointments. More than 74,000 drivers use it every day, making it one of the motorways with the highest traffic density in Andalucía.

The Minister of Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, has highlighted that the intervention aims to “increase comfort and safety” on a fundamental axis for the region. The milling and resurfacing works are carried out with partial lane closures during the night, minimising delays.

More investments on the horizon

The renewal of the surface is not the only good news for users of the A-357. Muñoz-Atanet has reminded that the conversion of the stretch between Casapalma and Cerralba into a motorway is about to begin, a project awarded for 51 million euros that will improve the fast and safe connection between the Serranía de Ronda and the Guadalhorce Valley with Málaga capital.

This action, which is expected to speed up journeys and reduce travel times, adds to the Junta's investment efforts to bring fast roads closer to inland populations. Drivers who travel the A-357 daily will notice the difference when the new stretch is operational.

For now, it is necessary to coexist with the night works. The forecast is that the resurfacing works will last several weeks, depending on weather conditions. The Junta recommends that drivers pay attention to temporary signage and reduce speed in the work zones.
