The Los Nadales Fairgrounds will host the 23rd edition of the Benalmádena Flamenco Festival ‘El Quejigal’ on Saturday, September 12, featuring the verdiales group ‘Raíces de Almogía’, dancer Antonio de Verónica, and singer Juanfra Carrasco.
The 23rd edition of the Benalmádena Flamenco Festival ‘El Quejigal’ will take place on Saturday, September 12 at 21:00 at the Los Nadales Fairgrounds. The event will bring together the verdiales group ‘Raíces de Almogía’, dancer Antonio de Verónica, and singer-songwriter Juanfra Carrasco.
The Councillor for Culture, Jésica Trujillo, has stated that Benalmádena maintains “a firm commitment to the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of flamenco, an art that is part of our cultural identity and which has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2010.”
“We are reaching the twenty-third edition of a fully consolidated festival, and we do so with a programme that combines different expressions of our heritage, from a tradition as Malagueño as the verdiales to flamenco dance and singing,” Trujillo explained.
The main novelty of this edition is the inclusion of the group ‘Raíces de Almogía’, which will bring one of the most characteristic cultural expressions of the province of Málaga to the municipality. According to the councillor, the aim is for “our traditions to have presence and visibility on the Costa del Sol, and for both the residents of Benalmádena and those who visit us to have the opportunity to learn about our roots and enjoy them.”
After the performance by the verdiales, Antonio de Verónica will take the stage, and the night will culminate with Juanfra Carrasco, an Extremaduran singer-songwriter, a disciple of the Triana school, and one of the most promising artists in the flamenco scene. Previous editions have featured figures such as Arcángel, Rancapino Chico, Pepe Torres, and Ana Pastrana.
The Benalmádena City Council develops initiatives throughout the year to promote flamenco alongside the Peña Flamenca La Repompa, such as Flamenco Week, the Benalmádena Flamenco Guitar Fest, Culture in the Street, and the festival itself. The Peña Caballista will collaborate with a bar offering affordable prices during the celebration.
“We invite residents and visitors to join us on September 12 at Los Nadales and enjoy a night where Benalmádena will once again pay tribute to flamenco, our roots, and an essential part of Andalusian culture,” concluded Trujillo.
