The Benalmádena Marina will host the 20th edition of the 24 Nautical Hours on October 3 and 4, featuring three ORC races and expected participation from cruisers.
The Benalmádena Marina will host on Saturday October 3 and Sunday October 4 the 20th edition of the 24 Nautical Hours – Costa del Sol Senda Azul Trophy, a regatta organised by the Benalmádena Nautical and Maritime Club and the marina itself.
The competition, aimed at cruising sailing vessels and governed under the ORC system, will feature three races over the weekend. The first will take place on Saturday 3, which will also see a second race, while the third race will occur on Sunday 4 before the trophy presentation and closing meal. To validate the regatta, at least one of the races must be completed.
The councillor in charge of the Marina, José Luis Bergillos, presented the event alongside provincial deputy Esperanza González, CEO of Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol. Bergillos highlighted that “Benalmádena is once again positioning itself among the major reference points for sailing in Andalusia with a competition that has now reached its twentieth edition and is part of the sporting and nautical tradition of our municipality.”
“We have exceptional conditions for practicing water sports and a Marina that serves as one of our major showcases. This regatta allows us to continue promoting Benalmádena and showcase all the potential we have linked to the sea, sport, and tourism,” Bergillos stated.
The councillor also valued the new phase of the marina: “We are entering a new phase in our Marina with the extension of the concession, which allows us to continue improving our marina and undertake new actions so that future editions of this historic regatta can be celebrated in increasingly modern and competitive facilities.”
The programme will kick off on Friday, October 2 with the opening of the regatta office and participant registration. On Saturday 3, registration will resume at 9:00 AM, followed by the skippers' meeting at 10:15 AM and the first race starting from 11:00 AM. The second race is scheduled from 5:00 PM. On Sunday 4, the third race will take place between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, and at 2:00 PM, the trophy presentation and closing meal will occur.
The competition includes the categories ORC 1, ORC 2, Class A2, and Promotion Class, the latter designed to facilitate the participation of vessels without a rating certificate.
Bergillos thanked “the work and involvement of the Benalmádena Nautical and Maritime Club, as well as the staff of the Marina and all the entities, sponsors, and collaborators that make it possible for a competition with such a history to continue growing edition after edition.”
