The locality of Madrid was the scene of a joint operation between the Civil Guard and the US federal agency Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), which culminated in the arrest of a man for his involvement in international firearm trafficking.
During the operation, named “Ciermet”, it was discovered that the arrested individual was acquiring firearm components online from the United States and other countries. With these elements, such as frames, barrels, and slides, he assembled complete firearms, mainly pistols, which he then trafficked.
Start of the Investigation
The investigation was activated after the interception in the United States of a package destined for Spain that contained new pistol barrels. This finding was communicated by HSI to the Civil Guard, allowing for a thorough follow-up of the suspect.
Despite the strategies employed by the arrested individual to conceal his identity, investigators managed to identify him and demonstrate that, using different fictitious identities, he had made numerous purchases of essential components for firearms. He acquired these components abroad, given the strict controls in Spain regarding the sale of weapons.
Seizures and Findings
As a result of the operation, security forces seized various weapons and items, including:
Seven pistolsA sawed-off shotgun
A rifle
Thirteen new pistol barrels
Five pistol frames
Three silencers
1,400 metal cartridges of different calibres
6,500 euros in cash
This operation is part of the Comprehensive Plan for the Control of Firearms (PICAF) of the Civil Guard. This plan aims to detect and neutralize illegal arms supply circuits, under the jurisdiction of the Corps at the national level.
The investigation has been led by the Instruction Section of the Court of Instance and Instruction of Majadahonda in Madrid. For more information or clarifications, interested parties can contact via phone at 915031109.
