Ronda City Council has presented the mobility plan for the Pedro Romero Fair, with enhanced buses, the little train, and new traffic restrictions. The parade on September 1 will mark the start of the restrictions.
Ronda City Council has announced the special traffic and transport arrangements for the Pedro Romero Fair and Festivities, which begin on Tuesday, September 1. The Traffic Delegate, Jorge Fernández, and the Chief of the Local Police, Miguel Aranda, have detailed the measures to ensure mobility and safety during the festive days.
Among the new features, the popular 'little train' will be back in operation, running from 8:00 PM on Tuesday and every day of the fair until 3:00 AM. Its route will start from Mariano Soubirón Street, with stops at Avenida Martínez Astein, leading to the entrance of the fairgrounds 'Ángel Harillo'.
The urban bus lines will be reinforced with four night lines operating from 9:30 PM to 4:00 AM, extending until 6:00 AM on Friday and Saturday. Two small buses will cover the route from the bus station via Plaza de España, Mariano Soubirón, Blas Infante, Avenida Martínez Astein (next to the health centre), the petrol station on Avenida de Málaga, and the fairgrounds. Another two larger buses will connect the peripheral areas: one will depart from the San Francisco Sports Centre and pass through Arenal neighbourhood and La Planilla; the other will leave from the Dehesa pharmacy to the bus station, stopping at Avenidas de Andalucía and de Málaga. The taxi service will be expanded this year to twenty vehicles.
For those who prefer to drive, two parking areas will be set up managed by non-profit associations Alfaro and Ayuca. One will be located at the old fairgrounds and, as a new feature, another in the centre, on Avenida de Andalucía, next to the train station, with 180 spaces thanks to an agreement with ADIF.
Jorge Fernández has invited citizens to make use of these transport options and highlighted the effort made to establish them.
Regarding circulation restrictions, the Chief of the Local Police explained that there will be punctual cuts to ensure safety in high-concentration areas such as Plaza de España, Calle Virgen de la Paz, and the accesses to the fairgrounds. On Friday, the fair entrance will be placed at the junction of Calle Espinel with Virgen de la Paz, restricting one lane without closing the road.
On Tuesday, September 1, the day of the parade, the operation will begin at 3:00 PM with the closure of the upper area of Calle Jerez for the assembly of floats and attractions. The route will start at 8:30 PM from the Hotel Catalonia Reina Victoria, continuing along Calle Jerez, Plaza de la Merced, Virgen de la Paz, Espinel, Avenida de Málaga, and Andrés Aguilar Gracia, passing through the three roundabouts (the one at Lidl and the next two) and entering the fairgrounds via the A-397 slip road. There, the floats will make a 'U' shaped route so that participants can safely disembark. The cuts will be applied progressively between 8:30 PM and 10:00 PM.
For the bullfighting festivities, on Friday, the novice bullfight will take place at 6:00 PM, with traffic cuts starting from 5:30 PM for approximately half an hour. On Saturday, with the anticipated Goyesca bullfight and the rejones, traffic will be completely cut off from 9:30 AM until 9:30 PM. On Sunday, during the carriage competition, the cut will be applied from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with the carriages stopping at Virgen de la Paz at 10:00 AM and the exhibition at 12:00 PM.
Miguel Aranda has asked for patience and cooperation from citizens during these days of high attendance, reminding them that the restrictions will be in place for the shortest duration possible and always under the guidance of the Local Police and established signage.
