The Ronda City Council has awarded ANEUM LED the contract to provide artistic lighting for the Puente Nuevo, with an investment of 210,000 euros and a timeframe of five months.
The Puente Nuevo in Ronda, one of the most emblematic monuments in the province of Málaga, will feature new artistic lighting that will enhance its architectural value. The local council has awarded the project to ANEUM LED, S. L., a specialised company that will execute the design by the renowned lighting designer Javier Górriz, who has extensive experience in combining architecture and light.
An investment co-financed by the Endesa Foundation
The project, which will involve a total investment of 210,000 euros, will come to fruition thanks to the agreement between the Ronda City Council and the Endesa Foundation, which will co-finance the work. According to the Councillor for Tourism, Ángel Martínez, the execution period is five months, aiming for completion by the end of September, coinciding with the celebration of World Tourism Day.
“We are going to transform the lighting of the Puente Nuevo in collaboration with the Endesa Foundation,” Martínez stated, highlighting that this initiative is part of the strategy of Turismo de Ronda, S. A. to enhance the night-time tourist offer and increase overnight stays in the city.

Energy efficiency and emission reduction
The new lighting will replace the current system, which is obsolete and inadequate, and will reduce CO2 emissions by half, saving 4.8 tonnes annually from the atmosphere. Additionally, an energy saving of 9.4 kW of power will be achieved thanks to the use of LED technology, which will also minimise the visual impact of the equipment. This improvement is particularly relevant for the residents and visitors of Ronda, who will be able to enjoy a more sustainable and attractive monument at night.
The Puente Nuevo, constructed under the direction of José Martín de Aldehuela and opened to traffic in 1793, is one of the most complex engineering works of the 18th century. With its 233 years of history, it spans the Tajo at a height of about 100 metres, connecting the two parts of the city. Its construction was not easy: the infrastructure collapsed and had to be rebuilt to reach the present day.
A project with a local stamp and Andalusian experience
The Endesa Foundation has carried out more than 700 projects for the lighting of historical-artistic heritage throughout Spain, of which 330 have been carried out in Andalusia. In the province of Málaga, notable projects include the Alcazaba of Antequera, the Caminito del Rey, and the Picasso Museum in Málaga. The Puente Nuevo itself was illuminated by the foundation in 1995, so this new intervention represents a necessary update.
For the residents of Ronda, this work will not only beautify their main icon but will also contribute to the tourist dynamism of the city. The artistic lighting complements other municipal actions in spaces such as the Walls, the Arch of Philip V, and the Plaza de Los Descalzos, aiming to create an attractive night-time route for visitors.
The project is part of the Ronda City Council's commitment to sustainable and quality tourism, which seeks to de-seasonalise demand and retain travellers. With the new lighting, the Puente Nuevo will become an even greater attraction for Ronda's nights, and residents will be able to take pride in a monument that will shine with its own light.
