The Municipal Group VOX Málaga has presented a motion to demand the comprehensive rehabilitation of the La Mosca football pitch, a municipal facility in the Eastern District with over three decades of use.
The Municipal Group VOX Málaga has submitted a motion to the City Council of the capital demanding the comprehensive rehabilitation of the La Mosca football pitch, a municipal facility located in the Eastern District. The initiative, presented by spokesperson Antonio Alcázar, calls for an end to the policy of sporadic interventions and for a global action that guarantees adequate facilities for the hundreds of minors who use them each week as well as for the surrounding residents.
The La Mosca football pitch, managed by Unión Deportiva La Mosca, has been one of the main references for grassroots sports in the area since its foundation in 1993. Generations of children and young people from neighbourhoods such as La Mosca, El Palo, Pedregalejo, or Cerrado de Calderón have passed through its facilities, developing an important educational and social role that transcends sports.
However, the passage of time has caused evident deterioration in the facilities. The artificial grass shows significant wear, the changing rooms have deficiencies, and the coverings accumulate damage that, according to VOX, require a complete technical assessment to determine the actual extent of the necessary actions.
The motion proposes that the City Council carry out a comprehensive technical inspection of the entire facility within a maximum period of three months. Based on that diagnosis, a rehabilitation project would be drafted that includes the renewal of the artificial grass, the renovation of changing rooms and auxiliary facilities, improvements to accessibility, energy efficiency, lighting, and user safety.
Additionally, the Municipal Group suggests that the project incorporate a specific mobility and coexistence plan that organizes access, parking, entries, and exits during sports events. It also requests an acoustic study to allow compatibility between the activity of the pitch and the rest of the residents in nearby homes.
Antonio Alcázar, spokesperson for VOX Málaga, has stated that "La Mosca has been providing an essential service to grassroots sports in Málaga for over thirty years and deserves facilities that match the importance of the work it carries out." The councillor criticized that the City Council has only responded so far with sporadic repairs when there is accumulated deterioration affecting the entire facility.
"It is time to carry out a complete diagnosis and plan a comprehensive rehabilitation with technical and budgetary criteria," Alcázar asserted. The spokesperson emphasized that the initiative does not pit the club against the residents but seeks to benefit both parties: "Modern, well-managed facilities that are correctly integrated into the environment benefit both those who practice sports and those who live next to the pitch."
From VOX Málaga, they remind that the planning of sports investments must respond to objective criteria such as the intensity of use, the age of the facilities, the number of users, and the urgency of the deficiencies. "Municipal resources must be distributed with criteria of territorial equality and addressing the real needs of each facility. La Mosca meets all the requirements for the City Council to schedule a specific action," Alcázar concluded.
The motion will be debated at the next municipal plenary session. If approved, the City Council would have three months to carry out the technical inspection and subsequently draft the rehabilitation project. The La Mosca pitch would continue to operate during the works, although with possible time restrictions to minimize disturbances to the residents.
