The three institutions sign an agreement to anticipate the needs and opportunities of the productive fabric of Málaga. The first meeting will gather 50 key agents at the University of Málaga.

The University of Málaga, the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Málaga (CEM), and the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Málaga signed the agreement for the creation of the Business Trends Observatory on Wednesday, a stable collaboration space to connect university knowledge with the needs of businesses in the province.

The agreement was signed by the rector, Teodomiro López Navarrete; the president of the CEM, Javier González de Lara, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce, José Carlos Escribano, at an event with representatives from the three entities. The initiative is driven by the UMA Empresa Office, under the Vice-Rectorate of Transfer, Entrepreneurship and Business.

The observatory will be responsible for collecting and analysing information about the business fabric of Málaga, identifying trends, opportunities and challenges, preparing studies and reports, and organising workshops and exchange meetings. The aim is for business and institutional decisions to be based on shared data and analysis.

The rector defended the joint work between university and business:

“The best service to society comes from this joint work, because in this specific case, there will not be three analyses of the situation, but only one agreed upon.”

Escribano explained that studying trends allows for “identifying needs, glimpsing new opportunities, and reinforcing areas where more technological capacity is needed,” and added that one of the responsibilities of the Chamber is “to be close to businesses and provide a service with the capacity for anticipation.”

González de Lara focused on institutional cooperation and the value of rigorous information:

“Businesses are immersed in a process of continuous training and are constantly changing; that’s why it’s important to have rigorous information to anticipate, and an observatory like the one we present today is a perfect agora for that.”

The first activity of the observatory will be a strategic meeting at the University of Málaga with 50 key agents from the business and institutional ecosystem of the province, by invitation, to anticipate future scenarios, detect challenges, and open avenues for collaboration.
