The province of Málaga has received significant recognition from the Junta de Andalucía in the ninth edition of the School Libraries and Reading Promotion Awards.

IES Fernando de los Ríos and CEIP Hernández Cánovas, located in Málaga city, as well as IES Los Montes from Colmenar, have been awarded for their outstanding practices in library management and the promotion of reading.

Awards and recognition for educational innovation

The Education Minister, María del Carmen Castillo, has expressed her congratulations to the winners and highlighted the importance of these awards in promoting reading. A total of 112 applications were submitted in the School Libraries category and 84 in the Reading Promotion category across Andalucía.

In the province of Málaga, 23 centres participated in the School Libraries category and 15 in the Reading Promotion category. Among the winners, IES Fernando de los Ríos stood out for its project ‘Efecto Ríos: chronicle of a library in motion’, which has turned its library into a strategic resource for reading mediation and cultural inclusion.

Outstanding projects in school libraries

IES Los Montes, in Colmenar, won the first prize in the Reading Promotion category for its integrated model based on the Planned Reading Plan (PLP). This model promotes daily reading across all subjects, using advanced digital tools and adaptations for diverse needs.

On the other hand, CEIP Hernández Cánovas, also in Málaga, received the second prize in the School Library category, in the Early Childhood and Primary Education category. Its project ‘Biblioalas: reading without limits. Towards an inclusive school library without limits’ was recognised for its rigorous methodology and collaboration with families and local entities.

The winners will receive financial support to improve their libraries. The first prize winners, IES Fernando de los Ríos and IES Los Montes, will receive 4,000 euros for updating bibliographic collections and digital resources, while CEIP Hernández Cánovas will receive 2,000 euros.
