The church of San Patricio hosted the presentation of the promotional poster for the Rosario de las Glorias de Málaga 2026 this Sunday, created by the Utrera artist Jesús Medina Cózar and featuring the Virgen del Carmen of Huelin.
The Group of Congregations, Brotherhoods and Glories of Málaga now has a poster for its annual event on October 17. The work, presented this Sunday at the church of San Patricio, is signed by the Utrera artist Jesús Medina Cózar and features the Virgen del Carmen of Huelin, the image that will preside over the rosary prayer. According to Diario Sur, the canvas shows the statue sailing the sea, with the tower of the Cathedral in the background and other Malagan symbols such as a biznaga held by an animated boquerón.
The event was attended by the author, who unveiled the work alongside the president of the Group, Victoria Eugenia Ribes, and the elder brother of the Brotherhood of Carmen de Huelin, Daniel Poveda. Blue is the dominant colour, referencing the Mediterranean, the beach of San Andrés, and the neighbourhood of Huelin, with a golden sunset light bathing the entire scene.
In the centre of the canvas, the Virgen del Carmen appears holding the Child, maintaining her recognisable iconography: brocade stole, scapular, and golden crowns that reflect the light of the horizon. The composition includes a small angel escorting the image and, at the bottom, the boquerón with the biznaga. Everything is framed in a white structure that gives the poster the appearance of an open window, with the word 'Málaga' and the legend 'Rosario de la Agr. Glorias, Carmen de Huelin, October 17, 2026'.
The secretary and press officer of the Group, Juan Carlos Muñoz, was responsible for presenting the work. During his speech, he highlighted the artist's career and his pictorial language: "Every poster is born from an idea, from an inspiration, and above all, from a particular gaze," he stated. He also defined Medina Cózar as "an artist who, through his particular pictorial language, has managed to carve out a niche within the artistic cofrade and religious landscape of our land".
Medina Cózar, a self-taught artist, has created numerous posters for brotherhoods in Utrera, Jerez, Cádiz, Sevilla, Granada, and Málaga. Among his works in Málaga are pieces for Humildad, Viñeros, and Prendimiento. Muñoz emphasised that his career "speaks of an artist in constant evolution, with a unique language and a special ability to interpret, from his particular vision, those realities that arise from faith, tradition, and popular devotion".
The event began with a concert by the music band Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, from the Congregation of Mena, which performed marches such as 'You are the pride of our town' and 'Triana'. The band has signed a collaboration agreement with the Group of Glories for 2026 and 2027, so it will accompany the most significant events, including the Rosario de las Glorias itself.
The poster is published to mark the 22nd anniversary of the external worship organised by the Group, which this year will take place in the Centre of Málaga on October 17.
