The province of Málaga will shift from the heat of 38 degrees to a temperature drop of up to ten degrees and a high risk of showers starting Thursday, according to Aemet.
The week begins in Málaga with a scenario typical of late August, with high humidity and temperatures well above normal, but the outlook will change midweek with the arrival of the terral and then storms. This is detailed by the director of the Málaga Meteorological Centre, Jesús Riesco, in statements reported by Diario Sur.
Between Monday and Tuesday, thermometers will reach 32 degrees in the capital and up to 38 in inland areas like Antequera. On Wednesday, the arrival of westerly winds will cause a drop of up to ten degrees in the inland regions, which will settle around 30, while in the city the terral will blow and maximums will rise to about 35 degrees.
On Thursday, the second meteorological turnaround will arrive. The mercury will drop again in the capital, to a maximum of 28 degrees, and the risk of showers will increase across the province. According to Riesco, the rains will arrive with the passage of the trough and the entry of easterly winds, they will be scattered and not very abundant, but could be recorded in many areas without ruling out any zone.
These contrasts come after an August that, across the province, has been the seventh warmest in the historical series, with an average of 26.6 degrees, one degree more than the reference period 1991-2020. The meteorologist describes it as
very warm, but there have been six Augusts warmer than this, with the record still in 2023, when 27.8 degrees were reached.
In the capital, the airport thermometer, a reference for the city, recorded an average of 28.1 degrees, 1.5 above normal, making it the fourth hottest August since 1942. Riesco warns that there is no anomalous factor explaining the increase and concludes:
we are only going to see more. However, the first half of the month was very warm and the drop from the 20th, due to the arrival of cold masses from the north, prevented even higher values.
