The Málaga Fair, whose origins date back to the capture of the city by the Catholic Monarchs in 1487, begins this Friday with the traditional Historical Parade through the Centre.
The Málaga Fair 2026 kicks off this Friday with the Historical Parade, a recreation that each year remembers the entry of Christian troops into the city in the 15th century. The parade, organised by the Cultural Association Zegrí, will start at 8:00 PM from Plaza de la Merced and will travel through the Historic Centre to Plaza de la Aduana.
The origin of this festivity is historical: on August 19, 1487, the Catholic Monarchs took Málaga after a four-month siege, incorporating the city into the Crown of Castile. Four years later, on August 15, 1491, the city council declared an annual festivity to commemorate it, and it was in 1887, on the occasion of the IV Centenary, that it took on the character of a grand summer fair.
More than 200 participants in period costumes, accompanied by music, will take part in the Parade. The route includes the streets Císter, Santa María, Molina Larios, Strachan, Torre de Sandobal, Larios, Marqués de Larios, Plaza de la Constitución, Calle Granada, Plaza del Carbón, and Plaza del Siglo, before returning via Molina Larios, Santa María, and Císter.
The central act will be the re-enactment of the handing over of the keys to the city at Plaza de la Aduana, a moment that marks the beginning of a week of festivities during which August 19 remains a local holiday. The event is this Friday at 8:00 PM, and it is an opportunity for locals and visitors to closely experience the roots of a celebration that, once again, fills the streets with history.
