The 23rd edition of the Memorial 'Juan Alda' Equestrian Costume and Tack Competition brought together dozens of participants at the Málaga Fair on Tuesday, with a special focus on the riders who competed side-saddle.
The Málaga Fair experienced one of its most anticipated events for horse lovers on Tuesday: the 23rd Memorial "Juan Alda" Equestrian Costume and Tack Competition, held in the afternoon at the Fairgrounds. The event gathered dozens of participants in various categories, showcasing their finest attire and saddles before an enthusiastic audience.
The highlight of the day was the presence of riders competing in the side-saddle style, a discipline that requires perfect balance. In this category, women sit in a special saddle with both legs on one side of the horse, using a horn to rest their feet and a whip to guide the animal.
The jury, composed of Rocío Pérez and Juan Jesús Guerrero, evaluated every detail of the horse-rider duo, from attire to stirrups. Everything counts when competing, said sources from the organisation, who highlighted the high participation in this edition.
The winners by category were: in the group category, Francisco Luque Millán and María Infantes Muñoz; in the rider category, Carin Ruiz Díaz; in the side-saddle category, Helena Barbosa; and in the children's category, Jimena Villegas.
The event was also attended by the mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, who, along with other authorities, presented several awards to the participants. The Fair continues its programme of equestrian activities, which will extend over the coming days.
