The Councillor for Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of Andalusia, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, has highlighted the need to protect the intervention of fruits and vegetables in the upcoming framework of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). This statement was made during the eighteenth edition of Fruit Attraction, held in Madrid.
Weight of the Andalusian horticultural sector
Fernández-Pacheco emphasized that defending the model of Producer Organisations for Fruits and Vegetables (OPFH) is essential for the progress and development of the sector. During his speech, he mentioned that Andalusian production represents not only quality and sustainability but also water efficiency and food security.
Sector data and Fruit Attraction
The councillor reported that in the first seven months of the year, the Andalusian horticultural sector has recorded sales worth 5.579 billion euros, which accounts for more than 53% of food and beverage exports from Andalusia during that period. This figure highlights the significant impact this sector has on the regional economy.
Fernández-Pacheco also underscored the relevance of Fruit Attraction as a key event for the sector, where the Junta of Andalusia actively participates. This year, more than 120,000 professionals from 150 countries and over 2,500 exhibiting companies are expected to attend. In total, nearly 200 Andalusian entities will be represented, 119 of them in the Andalucía Zone.
He concluded by stating that it is an opportunity to showcase fresh products and create synergies in international markets, thereby promoting the quality of the Andalusian horticultural sector.
