The Biomedical Research Institute of Málaga (IBIMA) has presented its Scientific Report 2025 at an institutional event held at the TechPark headquarters in Málaga. During the event, the results of a year marked by growth in scientific activity and the promotion of clinical research were revealed.
Results of the year 2025
In 2025, IBIMA managed to secure over 37 million euros for health research, representing a significant increase of five million compared to the previous year. Additionally, 388 competitive projects were active, and 1,550 clinical studies were conducted, 20% more than in 2024.
One of the highlighted developments was the incorporation of the Costa del Sol University Hospital, which expanded the Institute's healthcare and scientific capabilities. Its accreditation as a Health Research Institute was also renewed for five years, reinforcing the quality of its scientific work.
Scientific production and participation in research
The participation of IBIMA researchers in scientific publications was also notable, with a total of 951 publications, of which 88% were in first or second quartile journals. Regarding clinical research, 273 new studies were formalised, including 223 clinical trials.
The scientific director of IBIMA, Francisco J. Tinahones, highlighted the Institute's commitment to society and its goal of transforming growth into excellence in research, focusing on real solutions for people's health.
Innovation and knowledge transfer were key areas throughout the year. IBIMA recorded 112 active ideas with innovation potential and 24 collaborations with industry, reflecting its ability to turn scientific knowledge into effective clinical applications.
IBIMA also carried out outreach initiatives that raised over 365,000 euros for new research projects, involving citizens and various entities in its biomedical research efforts in Málaga.
