The Government delegate in Málaga, Patricia Navarro, announced an investment of over 20 million euros by the Junta of Andalucía to improve healthcare in the Antequera region. This figure covers both infrastructure and equipment since 2019.
Meeting with the Health Platform
Navarro recently held a meeting in Málaga with members of the Northern Antequera Health Platform, where improvements implemented in Antequera's healthcare were discussed. The meeting also included the territorial delegate for Health and Consumption, Lucía Yeves, and the manager of the Northern Antequera Health Area, Belén Jiménez.
The investment in healthcare infrastructure in the region amounts to over 10 million euros, with nearly 10 million allocated for equipment acquisition.
Improvements at Antequera Hospital
Among the most notable actions is the expansion of the Emergency Department at Antequera Hospital, with an investment exceeding one million euros. This has improved the diagnostic capacity of the centre with a second CT scanner and has facilitated direct connection with the radiodiagnostic area.
Additionally, a fifth operating room has been built, and 350,000 euros have been invested to increase the surgical area by 150 square metres. Reforms have also been made in the Digestive Service, and the Ophthalmology Service has been upgraded.
A key point has been the recovery of the Campillo Bajo health centre, which had been closed since 2010. Renovation works are underway for a total value of 2.8 million euros, which will provide 22 adult consultations and five paediatric ones.
Since 2022, the Campillo Bajo SUAP has begun operating, offering out-of-hospital emergency services with an investment of 600,000 euros to serve the citizens of Antequera.
Finally, the Junta has renewed the infrastructure and equipment of dental offices in the health area, investing over 500,000 euros to improve the quality of dental health care.
The increase in healthcare personnel has also been significant since 2019, with the creation of 52 new structural positions in Primary Care and a 23.3% increase in the number of professionals at Antequera Hospital. Navarro emphasized the Andalusian Government's commitment to providing closer and more efficient healthcare.
