The town of Málaga has been the scene of a recent controversy related to the care of unaccompanied migrant minors. This Monday, the general director of Childhood and Adolescence of the Junta of Andalucía, Esteban Rondón, denied PSOE's criticisms regarding a supposed return of €8.78 million to the State for this purpose.
Clarification from the Junta
Rondón stated that "not a single euro has been returned to the State," explaining that the budget remains available and under management by the Junta. According to his statements, the confusion arises from a interpretative error related to accounting adjustments.
The director indicated that these funds were initially recorded in a previous fund, S0685, and have now been transferred to the new fund S0775, created specifically for the care of migrant minors. This transfer does not imply in any case the return of resources to the central Government.
Source of the funds
Rondón reminded that the transfer of €8.78 million comes from a resolution of the Ministry of Youth and Childhood, established in November 2025. These funds are intended to cover the expenses arising from the care of unaccompanied migrant minors facing overcrowding and displacement.
The general director emphasized that "there is an administrative operation to place those resources in the corresponding specific budget fund," reaffirming that the money continues to be allocated for its specific use and has not been returned to the State.
Finally, he urged parties to be responsible and precise with the information they handle, stressing that the misinterpretation of a simple accounting adjustment should not be an excuse to politicise such sensitive issues as the care of migrant minors.
