In Málaga, the first vice president and councillor of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies of the Junta of Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, announced the incorporation of 73 new agents to the National Police Attached Unit to the Autonomous Community of Andalucía (UPA). This measure is part of the agreement signed between the Junta of Andalucía and the Ministry of the Interior in February 2025.
Sanz explained that the selection process for these new agents will begin this September, with the expectation that they will join the force at the beginning of next year. This action aims to strengthen the capabilities of the Attached Police and advance in new competencies.
Incorporation of vehicles and new Local Police positions
In addition to the new agents, 16 new vehicles will be added to the UPA. According to Sanz, this initiative demonstrates the Junta's commitment to security and the protection of vulnerable sectors, such as minors and healthcare workers, as well as in the prevention of forest fires.
In another announcement, the vice president revealed that a unified call for new Local Police positions will be implemented, which will be managed directly by the regional administration. Municipalities will be able to join this call to facilitate the incorporation of new agents and reduce the costs of selection processes in smaller municipalities.
Increase in personnel and new uniformity decree
In the past year, Andalucía has increased the number of local police by 1,000, reaching a total of 11,000 agents spread across more than 500 bodies. This growth reflects the Junta's commitment to security in the community.
Sanz also announced that a new decree on uniformity and technical means for local police will be approved at the beginning of the year, which is in its final processing phase. This decree will establish uniform criteria regarding the image of Local Police bodies and strengthen the defensive means for agents.
One of the main innovations will include the incorporation of tasers and long weapons in specific situations that require them. These measures are intended to improve the effectiveness of local police and contribute to the safety of the Andalusian citizens.
