Antequera, 1 September 2026. The Junta de Andalucía has completed the comprehensive renovation of the Active Participation Centre (CPA) in Antequera, a project that involved an investment of over €480,000. The territorial delegate for Social Services, Families and Equality, Laura Valle, visited the centre along with the mayor, Manolo Barón, and the director of the CPA, Antonio Matas.
The facilities, which will serve nearly 5,000 elderly people in the municipality, are designed to offer workshops, activities and services focused on active ageing. The total investment was €487,626.21, largely funded by Next Generation funds.
Objectives and programming of the centre
Valle emphasised that the main objective of the new CPA is to promote active ageing and combat unwanted loneliness among the elderly. She thanked the Antequera City Council for its collaboration during the renovation process, which allowed activities to continue despite the construction work. The programming of the workshops will resume during the first week of October.
The activities offered will include gymnastics, choir, memory, painting, IT and mobile device use workshops. Currently, 222 people participate in these workshops, of which 85% are women.
Improvements in the facilities
The renovation has allowed for significant improvements in the CPA, adapting the spaces to the current needs of the users. A new auditorium has been created, cognitive stimulation and crafts areas have been improved, and the IT classroom has been upgraded to enhance connectivity. The restrooms have also been adapted and the lighting has been replaced.
Antonio Matas, director of the CPA, appreciated the renovation as a way to create a more suitable space for the coexistence and learning of the elderly in Antequera. The delegate also announced that hairdressing and café services will begin in the coming weeks, offering subsidised menus for holders of the Andalucía Junta 65 card.
