Málaga will host the European Researchers' Night on Friday, September 25, an event that will bring together more than 350 scientists and offer 73 outreach activities for all audiences. This initiative, supported by the Ministry of University and Industry, will take place in the Paseo del Parque, the Eduardo Ocón Venue, and the Rectorate of the University.
Objectives and activities of the European Night
The European Researchers' Night is an action promoted by the European Commission, aimed at bringing the benefits of science closer to society. Since its inception in Andalusia in 2012, this event has aimed to awaken scientific vocations among young people and promote research as a professional career.
This year, Málaga will combine playful and educational activities, including experiments, workshops, demonstrations, scientific routes, and shows. The programme will run from the afternoon until nearly midnight and will be complemented by activities at the Andalusian Museum of Education in Alhaurín de la Torre.
Thematic axes and international collaboration
This edition will focus on the central themes of eclipses and water. The eclipses are part of the 'Trio of Eclipses', phenomena that will be visible from Spain between 2026 and 2028, with special attention to Andalusia in 2027. The activities will aim to bring astronomy closer to all attendees in a participatory manner.
Water will also play a prominent role, as its implications for health, food, and the environment will be addressed. This year, the initiative collaborates with the European Researchers' Nights of several European countries, including Sweden, Malta, and the United Kingdom.
The European Researchers' Night in Andalusia is an event coordinated by the Fundación Descubre, in collaboration with various universities and research bodies. The expected participation across Andalusia exceeds 80,000 people and reaffirms the importance of this event in the regional scientific field.
