The illustrator from Málaga, Patricia Castro, has won the contest for the Málaga Fair 2026 poster with her work 'Flowers for Victory', which received 2,584 popular votes. Mayor Francisco de la Torre presented the design this Tuesday.
The Málaga City Council unveiled the poster that will announce the Málaga Fair 2026 this Tuesday. It is 'Flowers for Victory', a work by the illustrator and architect from Málaga Patricia Castro Bohórquez, who triumphed in a public contest with 177 candidates.
The winning work received 2,584 votes (38% of the 6,814 valid votes cast by citizens), surpassing four other finalists. The second place went to 'The Lantern of Málaga', with 2,417 votes (36%); and third place to 'Where the Light Dances', with 1,179 (17%).
A participatory process with a record number of works
The contest, promoted by the City Council's Festival Department, began on June 24 with a selection phase of five finalists by a multidisciplinary jury. This year, 177 works were submitted, a figure that reflects the growing interest in the competition.
The jury was chaired by the General Director of Operational Services, Internal Regime, Beaches and Festivals, Manuel Salazar, and included gallery owner Eugenia Benedito, the president of the Málaga Federation of Peñas, Manuel Curtido, communicator Francisco Javier Jurado, painter and president of Aplama, Francisco Jurado, head of the Festival Negotiation, Juan Antonio Pérez de Villena, plastic artist Santiago Picatoste, plastic artist Cristina Soler, and plastic arts technician Fernando Wilson. Laura Guerrero acted as secretary.
The author of the poster has received a prize of 3,600 euros, while the other four finalists have been awarded a prize of 600 euros each.
An image that champions artisan tradition and the patron saint
Patricia Castro Bohórquez, born in Málaga and trained as an architect, founded her own creative design and illustration studio in Málaga. Her work 'Flowers for Victory' recovers the figure of the Virgin of Victory, the patron saint of the city, as the central axis of the festivity.
According to the author, the poster champions artisan work and offers a unique vision of the patron saint, surrounded by flowers and colour. The Councillor for Festivals, Teresa Porras, highlighted during the presentation that the work “connects with the essence of the Málaga Fair and with the devotion of the people of Málaga.”
The residents of the capital will be able to see the poster in the coming weeks on bus shelters, municipal buildings, and advertising supports throughout the city. The Málaga Fair 2026 will take place, as is tradition, at the Cortijo de Torres fairgrounds and in the historic centre, with the entrance of the Alameda Principal as one of the nerve centres.
The City Council expects the poster to be available in digital format for download on the municipal website starting next week, and that printed copies will arrive at the city's tourist and cultural information points.
