The healthcare training centre MIR Asturias, part of the UAX Group, has officially opened its new headquarters at the UAX Mare Nostrum campus in Málaga. The MIR Plus programme, aimed at sixth-year medical students, begins with a view to the exam in February 2028.
The healthcare training centre MIR Asturias, belonging to the UAX Group, has officially inaugurated its new headquarters in Málaga, located at the UAX Mare Nostrum campus. The opening, as reported by Diario Sur, strengthens the institution's presence in Andalusia and brings its MIR preparation methodology, backed by nearly four decades of experience, closer to a larger number of future doctors in the region.
The activities at this new headquarters commence with the MIR Plus programme, aimed at sixth-year medical students who will sit the MIR exam in February 2028. This is the first phase of preparation and allows students to start working ahead of time while balancing their exam study with their final year of university.
Between September and June, MIR Plus focuses on the most frequently tested concepts and combines planning, proprietary materials, training with questions and simulations, as well as follow-up classes and corrections. This approach allows for progressive advancement tailored to the students' pace before tackling the subsequent stages of preparation.
“The arrival of MIR Asturias in Málaga allows us to be even closer to the students and support them from the beginning of their preparation. Our model is based on clear planning, personalised follow-up, and a methodology adapted to each student's progress. With MIR Plus, we want those finishing their medical degree to start this journey progressively, knowing what to do at each moment and having the necessary support throughout the process,” explains Marta Novo, director of MIR Asturias.
The inauguration was held at the UAX Mare Nostrum campus and served to present students with the method they will work with over the coming months, as well as the teachers and tutors who will accompany them during their preparation. Málaga thus joins the MIR Asturias locations in Oviedo, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, Santiago, and Bilbao, in addition to its online modality.
The MIR Asturias model is based on structured preparation that aims to guide students through each phase of the process. Study planning, proprietary materials, and continuous training help organise content, establish priorities, and maximise preparation time efficiency. Simulations and mini-simulations allow for tracking student progress throughout the course.
One of the distinguishing elements of the model is personalisation. MIR Asturias works with a low student-to-tutor ratio, allowing for close monitoring tailored to each student's needs. The methodology also includes specific strategies for diverse profiles, including high-achieving students, repeaters, and non-EU students. This personalisation is also supported by the virtual campus, featuring algorithmic technology that adapts the programme to the student's progress.
This methodology is complemented by a teaching team made up of healthcare professionals who have personally experienced both the preparation and the MIR exam. The preparation also considers the emotional well-being of students through an internal team of psychologists. After the exam, MIR Asturias offers post-MIR advisory sessions focused on choosing a position and specialty.
The expansion of MIR Asturias will continue on 12 September with the opening of new headquarters in Córdoba and Zaragoza. Andalusia will continue to be a strategic hub for the institution, which is already marketing its preparation programmes in Granada with the aim of opening in the city next year.
